What's in the KNHS database?

The KNHS stores all official competition results for registered horses and riders. Records go back to the early 2000s. For each start you'll find the horse, the rider, the date, the venue, the test or class, the percentage achieved or number of faults, and the final ranking. For dressage you can see the percentages per individual judge, so you can also assess the spread of scores. For showjumping, time penalties and any knocked poles are listed. In total, more than 2 million starts are searchable at any given moment.

How to open the search function

Go to mijn.knhs.nl and select 'Wedstrijduitslagen' from the menu. You don't need an account to search — the database is publicly accessible. Fill in at least one search field:

  • Horse: search by name or UELN/chip number
  • Rider: first and last name or membership number
  • Venue: name of the stable or outdoor location
  • Discipline: dressage, showjumping, eventing, or driving
  • Period: set a start and end date for more targeted results

Purchase research: what exactly should you look at?

When evaluating a horse you're considering buying, you want to know more than just the average percentage. Pay attention to the following points as you review the results list:

  • Consistency: are the percentages stable, or are there large dips?
  • Competition frequency: has the horse competed regularly (at least 8–10 times per year) or barely at all?
  • Level jumps: has the horse moved up levels very quickly recently, which could indicate being pushed too fast?
  • Rider changes: multiple combinations in a short period of time warrant an explanation
  • Recency: a top performance from three years ago says little about current condition

Mapping your own progress

The database is also valuable for tracking your own development as a horse-and-rider combination. Filter by your membership number and export the results to a spreadsheet using the download button in the top right. A handy trick: compare your average percentage per judge across an entire season. If you consistently score lower with certain judges, that can be a hint that specific parts of your test are less consistent than you think. Save the export in the horse profile in EquiSight so you have all your data in one place.

Avoiding common search mistakes

  • Spelling errors in the horse's name: use the UELN number to be sure
  • Too broad a date range: more than five years of results will slow the page down considerably
  • Forgetting to set the discipline: combinations that compete in multiple sports will produce an unmanageable list
  • Missing international results: KNHS only shows Dutch competitions; for FEI results go to data.fei.org
  • Leaving the page without exporting: search filters are not saved, so download first

Linking results to EquiSight

Found interesting results? Through EquiSight you can attach notes and files to the horse in question. Upload the CSV export directly into the horse profile, or pass a summary to EquiCoach. Based on the historical scores, EquiCoach can identify patterns and point out training focus areas you might have overlooked yourself. Say you ask: 'What stands out in these results from the past eighteen months?' — you'll get a concrete overview of trends in percentages, disciplines, and levels, ready to discuss with your trainer.

Combining results with your calendar

Plan your next competition season more smartly by combining historical results with the competition calendar in EquiSight. Start by searching for venues where your combination has scored well, then use the calendar module to schedule targeted entries at those locations. That way you turn historical data into a concrete action plan rather than a standalone archive.
