Eight Measures
- 1. Sweet itch rug with belly flap and hood (crucial)
- 2. Keep indoors during peak hours (sunrise/sunset)
- 3. Fan in the stable — midges fly poorly in a draught
- 4. Repellent with permethrin or natural alternatives
- 5. Do not graze near bodies of water
- 6. Keep mane short (fewer hiding spots for midges)
- 7. Omega-3 supplement for skin condition
- 8. Use medicated shampoo at the first signs of symptoms

Consult a vet. Treatment combines managing itch (corticosteroids or antihistamines), skin care and — optionally — desensitisation injections.
