What is fructan?
Fructan is a sugar stored in grass. At high concentrations, it can lead to fermentation in the large intestine and consequently to laminitis.
When are fructan levels high?
- Cold nights + sunny days (spring, autumn)
- Early morning
- After a ground frost
- Stressed grass (after mowing, drought, short growth)
How do you keep track of it?
EquiSight calculates the fructan index per pasture and sends alerts when the risk is high. Combine this with grazing times for optimal management.
